Qualifications for submission:
* The contest is open to composers of forty years of age and over by the
submission date (i.e. born before 1987), of any nationality, but must be resident in
the U.K.
* Open to any gender or identification.
* Only one submission per composer is allowed.
* Past winners of the composition award may not apply on consecutive years, but those
who have received Honorary mentions can.
*A composer's early works are accepted and the date of composition is not relevant.
* The submission may have been performed previously but must not have received an
award.
* The winning composer must arrange to travel to London for the performance at
their own expense.
* Submissions must be written for one of the following:
A – Chamber ensemble including
Flute and/or Alto, Piccolo
Bb Clarinet and/or Bass Clarinet
Piano
1 Performer: Vibraphone
Violin 1
Violin 2
Viola
Cello
* The submission must be written for the full ensemble, be between a minimum 7 and a maximum 10 minutes in length, and constitute a complete work. Submissions outside the duration parameters will not normally be considered though the judges may use their discretion on this matter.

B – String Quartet
* The submission must be between a minimum 7 and a maximum 10 minutes in length.
* The submission may be of any style or aesthetic direction, but electronics are not allowed.
Application procedure:
All materials are to be submitted electronically, by email to 40plus@trinitylaban.ac.uk Submissions sent directly to the Coopman Foundation or any other Trinity Laban address will not be accepted. Given our limited admin capacity, no acknowledgement of receipt will be issued, but you will be contacted if there are problems with your submission. If you have query for which you cannot find the answer above, as a last resort only, write to coopmancompositioncompetition@gmail.com but be aware that we will only respond if genuinely urgent.

2. Attach proof of identity (passport scan, driving license etc. You may if you wish redact
Passport, licence’s numbers except date of birth)
3. Attach a pdf of the score using the following file name: TITLE_INITIALS_DOB
(DD/MM/YYYY) [parts to be followed shortly after upon request].
4. Link to sound file mp3 format (MIDI recording acceptable):
TITLE_INITIALS_DOB (date of birth DD/MM/YYYY) Please ensure that the link
you provide is accessible to anyone with the link. There are several readers
for this competition, and so the link must be accessible to anyone with it.
Submissions whose links are not accessible will not be accepted. The audio
quality has no influence on the reader’s decisions, legibility of the score
does.
Please ensure you name DOES NOT appear on the linked file i.e. your
Soundcloud name or Dropbox sender.
5. Attach a second pdf with the following information
* Short biography
* Comments or program note of the submitted work (max. 100 words)
* Declaration the work has not previously received an award
* Good quality portrait photo
*Submissions must be anonymous. Score and audio files should have no
references at all to the composer’s identity - please note Dropbox and SoundCloud
files often bear the sender’s name.
* The Rosalie Coopman Music Foundation reserves the right to give no award if in
the opinion of the judges the required expectations have not been met. The
decision will be final and the Foundation will not engage in correspondence or
produce commentary on individual works.
There is no application fee.
The opening date for submissions is 12.00pm (noon) 1st November 2026.
The closing date for submissions is 12.00pm (noon) 1st February 2027. Our panel of
judges, consisting of professional musicians and composers, will review the entries;
the winning composer will be announced shortly after 1st April 2027.
